Like the Flu. Like the Flu (Poetry)

  If only you knew

Tell me that I don’t own your soul

when I could devour it completely whole.
Tell me that I don’t confuse your mind
when you’re running circles desperate to rewind.
Tell me that my lungs don’t contain your breathe
when your love for me will always result in your death.

You said to me that I was like the flu
If only you knew… if only you knew…

Mortality of the heart.

Is my mortal body, that falls to the floor
enough for you yet?
How could I possibly give you much more
is this all just a test?

Am I the pawn that you move as you roll the die
Are you just going to break me until I lose the will to try?
Tell me I'm your angel, and I'll have the strength to fly
Or continue to hurt me, and watch as my wings shatter and die.
